A Celebration of Learning

A Celebration of Learning

This week we had our final Unit Celebration for the year for our current Unit of Inquiry on ‘Feelings and Emotions’. We also integrated our yearlong unit on “Living Things” and we were delighted to see so many parents, friends and family come to support our children. We began in the Black Box Theatre, where our children performed the story “The Rainbow Flower” by Michael Grejniec. We decided to share this story in Chinese and English and the entire performance was hosted and performed by the children. Our narrators were Iris North who read the book in English, and Annie Qui Guo who read in Chinese. Each child in the class played a part and most spoke their lines in Chinese. It is such an achievement for our class and we are so proud of our risk takers in Plum Blossom.

Afterward, we moved to our classroom, where the children performed a song that combines music, movement, and math. “The Ants go Marching” has been a favorite song this year, and we had fun marching around the class for the parents. Next, the children shared their learning throughout the unit and walked with their parents around the art exhibitions and discussed their emotions paintings in the hallway.

“The Ants Go Marching”

The children always love to show their parents around the areas of the classroom, and it is wonderful to observe them as they confidently share their favorite works, and show how to work with the materials on the shelves. With no input from us, the children feel at home and own the environment and the materials within the classroom. The happy spirit of each child was apparent in this moment and brought to mind a quote from Maria Montessori: “One test of the correctness of educational procedure is the happiness of the child”

We look forward to seeing all our Plum Blossom families at our End-of-Year Picnic and Games Party on Thursday 20th June from 10:00 to 12:00

Here are some more photos of the wonderful work that has been happening in our class this week!
